Adult Secondary Education Specialty Certificate Course Offerings--Social Studies

ASE SS1: US History
This course focuses on building the US history content knowledge adult students need for adult secondary education, college, and career success. Content is aligned with the Adult Education Standards with emphasis on both content and creative teaching strategies, techniques, and activities for teaching the concepts students need to know about the colonial period, the founding of the United States, and the period up to and including the Civil War. Participants will learn how to design and use contextual, interactive and collaborative lessons and activities to enhance instruction.
Expected Outcomes - You will:
ASE SS2: Modern US History
This course focuses on building the US history content knowledge adult students need for adult secondary education, college, and career success. Content is aligned with the Adult Education Standards with emphasis on both content and creative teaching strategies, techniques, and activities for teaching the concepts students need to know about the period after the Civil War including World War I, World War II, the Cold War, and US foreign policy since 9/11. Participants will learn how to design and use contextual, interactive and collaborative lessons and activities to enhance instruction.

ASE SS3: Civics and Economics
This course focuses on building the civics and economics content knowledge all adult students need for adult secondary education, college, and career success. Content is aligned with the Adult Education Standards with emphasis on creative teaching strategies, techniques, and activities for teaching the concepts students need to understand to bring the three branches of US government and economic principles to life with an emphasis on personal financial literacy. This course will also provide an understanding of what students need to know to pass the United States Citizenship Test. Participants will learn how to design and use contextual, interactive and collaborative lessons and activities to enhance instruction.

ASE SS4: World History
This course focuses on building the world history content knowledge adult students need for adult secondary education, college, and career success. Content is aligned with the Adult Education Standards with emphasis on creative instructional techniques, strategies, and activities to teach the concepts students need to know about history since the mid 15th century and the major turning points that have shaped the modern world. Participants will learn how to design and use contextual, interactive and collaborative lessons and activities to enhance instruction.
