How to Access the Orientation to Basic Skills Course
Getting to this course can be a little bit complicated, but it's worth it. The course is housed at another university, so we're subject to any problems they may have with their servers. Don't worry if you can't complete the course all at once. The course will bookmark where you are and when you return, you can pick up where you left off.
Follow these steps to access the course:
1. To get started, you must first get your enrollment key from your director or someone authorized to give you the enrollment key.
2. Next, set up an account. To do this, go to the sign-up page at http://jupiter.educ.kent.edu/moodle/login/signup.php or use the link from the button at the bottom of this page.
A. Complete ALL fields because you cannot register if you leave any blank.
B. Please make sure that you insert your email address very carefully. Double-check it for accuracy.
C. Make sure that you use initial capital letters for your name because the way you type your name here will determine what appears on your certificate. If you use a nickname, that's what will be on the certificate.
D. When you are finished, click on "create my new account."
2. You will then be sent an email containing instructions on how to complete the sign-up and login.
3. Once you click on the email, you will be set up and taken to a page listing all the courses. You will choose the North Carolina course entitled New Teacher Training and enter the enrollment key.
4.That will take you to the main page of the course. Simply click on Getting Started and you are on your way.
5. After that, you will be able to return to the course any time you want by using the link http://jupiter.educ.kent.edu/moodle/login/index.php You will only need to enter your user name and password to log in and access the course.
6. Contact Janis at [email protected] for help if you need it.
Note: The enrollment key for instructors who teach at Fayetteville Technical Community College is nc020. Every institution has its own enrollment key and you should be sure to use the key that is designated for your school so that your completion of the course is properly reported. Go to http://www.nccommunitycolleges.edu/Basic_Skills/professional_development.htm and look under the heading "Credentials". Click on the link for Community Colleges or Community-Based Organizations to find your enrollment key.
