ESOL Specialty Certificate

The ESOL Specialty Certificate is designed to recognize instructors who have completed meaningful coursework with a sound pedagogical approach. With the flexibility offered by online access and the scheduled face-to-face training sessions throughout the program year, ESL Instructors can potentially earn their NC Adult ESOL Specialty Certificate in a relatively short time span. Additionally, as more ESL Instructors take part in this professional development, the improvement in student learning and progress should be notable.
Although there are many activities and courses that could be offered, the North Carolina Community College System sought to develop a training plan that reaches part-time instructors as well as full-time instructors. To that end, both LINCS and NC State were selected as integral components of the training plan. The plan requires that everyone seeking a certificate first complete the gateway LINCS online course on Second Language Acquisition. Once that course has been completed, there are four strands which may be taken in any order, but the online course in each strand is the prerequisite for the face-to-face training in that strand.

Email Karen Brown ( [email protected] ) with any questions you may have. The Face to Face courses have begun and you can find information about them on the NCCCS Basic Skills Training Calendar. There are core certificate (silver) sessions as well as the new ESOL Specialty Certificate and Adult Secondary Education Specialty Certificate Sessions. Since the completion of the online courses for the ESOL is required in order to enroll in the Face to Face sessions, getting a head start could be very useful. |
